Meet Harriet Deveroix

Harriet attended an elite private preparatory school before graduating from Wellesley College, where she studied Art History and Business Administration.

Role in the Deveroix Estate

Harriet is the matriarch of the Deveroix family and steward of the Deveroix Estate. She oversees the household, family traditions, charitable commitments, social obligations, and preservation of the Deveroix name.

Following James's death, Harriet became increasingly determined to maintain stability and protect Rebecca's future, even when her choices came at a personal cost.

Personality

Elegant, controlled, intelligent, and fiercely protective. Harriet was raised to understand that appearances matter and that powerful families survive by keeping their private troubles private.

But beneath her composed exterior is a woman deeply afraid of loss.

Her Greatest Fear

Harriet's mother died when Harriet was ten years old. The loss affected her so profoundly that Harriet eventually blocked much of the memory from her conscious mind.

She rarely speaks about her mother and avoids cemeteries whenever possible. Harriet hates death and is deeply frightened by it, preferring to keep death at a distance rather than confront the memories it awakens.

Her fear of losing the people she loves has quietly influenced many of the choices she makes, particularly when it comes to Rebecca.

 

Family Legacy

Harriet is the daughter of Victor Hawthorne, a powerful and calculating man whose influence has followed her throughout her life. She married James Deveroix and became part of one of Boston's most prominent families.

She has spent decades caught between the Deveroix legacy she married into and the Hawthorne legacy she was born into.

And perhaps the greatest irony of Harriet's life is this:

She has spent years trying to protect her daughter from loss while being unable to confront the loss that shaped her own life.
